We are gathered here today to remember and celebrate the life of our dear son, brother, partner, friend and collaborator, Richard Harrison Meagher. Early in 1971 he was born, and everyone who knew him would say that since then there was never a dull moment. He had a bright and quick-witted mind for both the abstract and the concrete, an honest and forthright bearing with both stranger and kin, a true talent as a musician and singer and an intelligent sense of humour that knew no bounds. Rick’s verve and energetic nature was unmistakable throughout his life with the shenanigans of boyhood, the friendships and musical pursuits in young adulthood and the maintenance of family bonds, partnerships and a career in the care industry.
Always in search of knowledge, inspiration and insight, Rick was enthusiastic about not only music – even fronting the dynamic ‘Earthquake Blues Band’ – but video games, tinkering with various devices, talking at length about any subject under the sun, solving problems, giving advice and making his friends and family laugh out loud without fail. Richard’s decline in health in recent times has brought us here together to express grief, cry, laugh, share memories and as his good nature would ask of us – to celebrate.
Rick is survived by his mother Margaret, brother Mark, partner Michael, close family friend Edward as well as extended family, friends and countless others who will never forget this funny, clever and truly unique individual. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing can make a contribution to Lymphatic Education & Research Network.
