It is with heavy hearts we share that Richard Currie, beloved husband, father, grandpa/papa, of Kamloops, B.C. passed away at the age of 71 on November 21st, 2023, after a lengthy journey with cancer.
Rick was born on October 12th, 1952, to Wallace and Jean Currie in Calgary, Alberta. Rick moved to Boston Bar in 1970. He worked at the sawmill there and other locations in BC for over 30 years, finishing his lengthy career as a Millwright in Kamloops, BC. He was always known for his strong work ethic, his willingness to help everyone and his well-kept yard.
In 1975, he met Crystal, his soul mate, at the Blue Lake Resort in Boston Bar. Rick and Crystal were married in 1977 and went on to have three boys, Joshua, Jeremy, and Jason. They blessed him with three daughters and six grandchildren, Melissa (Joshua), Brooklynn, Braydon, and Krista (Jeremy), Benjamin, Colton, and Kimberly (Jason), Hayden, Baylee.
Rick loved spending time with his family. When the boys were young, he coached bowling and spent many summers camping, fishing, and getting firewood with them. He had a passion for riding his motorcycle with Crystal which took them on many adventures. They explored the Kootenays, Oregon coast, Utah, Sturgis, and many other places. Over the past few years, he really enjoyed kayaking with family and friends.
In 2012, Rick retired and spent his time with Marlee (his beloved therapy dog) volunteering over 3200 hours with St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog Program. His contributions were recognized with the BC and Yukon Award, The Priory Vote of Thanks, and the Service Medal of the Most Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
Rick was predeceased by his parents Wallace and Jean. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was so proud of them. He had such a special relationship with each and every one. Family was his everything.
An open house Celebration of Life will be held at Hal Rogers Centre, 2025 Summit Dr. on December 17th, 2023, from 12:30-3:30PM, tea and light refreshments will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John’s Therapy Dog Program (www.sja.ca/en/donate) or Kamloops Hospice Association (www.kamloopshospice.com/contribute/donate/).
