Rhoda Faith Holt (nee Smith) Obituary
Surrounded by her loving family, suddenly, on Saturday, November 30th, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Rhoda peacefully entered the arms of her Lord and Saviour.
Beloved wife of Allan for 58 wonderful years, she was the devoted and caring mother of Janet (Tim Killingbeck) and James (Brittany). Cherished and adored Grammy to Quinton, Kyle, Kiptyn, Sawyer, and Ryker.
Rhoda was “Big Sis” and best friend to Yvonne (Pat) and was “Big Sis” and like a second mom to Sonny (Pamela).
She was a loving aunt to Rhonda (Gus), Jonathan (Sarah), Cody (Mercedes) and Josh.
Born in England in 1944, Rhoda came to Canada aboard the Queen Mary in 1954, settling in Toronto. She attended Humberside Collegiate and graduated from Lakeshore Teachers’ College. Her teaching journey began in a one-room school in Orono and continued in rural schools in Port Elgin and Southampton. After briefly living in Mississauga for 1 year, Allan and Rhoda moved back to Kincardine in 1973 until 1991, when they relocated to Bowmanville until 1995, when they moved to Oshawa.
Allan and Rhoda treasured their summers at their place on Mary Lake, hosting countless friends and family gatherings filled with love and laughter. Rhoda was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oshawa and served faithfully at Camp Mini-Yo-We as a cook, camp craft/outdoor adventure leader, and Bible study leader. Her servant’s heart led her to participate in 24 mission trips to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, El Salvador & Honduras alongside Allan. She also directed day camps at Calvary Baptist Church, where she was affectionately known as «Blue Jay.”
A passionate teacher of God’s word, Rhoda was deeply involved in women’s Bible study ministry throughout her life and right up until days before her passing.
Rhoda lived a life rooted in faith, demonstrating unwavering trust in the Lord. She exemplified grace, love and dedication to her family, her community and her Savior.
«Well done, good and faithful servant.» Psalm 29:11, Isaiah 40:11
