Obituary of Rev. Donald Chisholm
Chisholm, Rev. Donald R. – Passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Kingston Health Sciences Centre at the age of 87. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years; Helen (nee Greenwood) and his children Brian (Myra) Wells, late Brian Chisholm, Bill (Carol) Wells, Dale (Linda) Chisholm, Mike Chisholm, Doug (Lesley) Chisholm, Steve (Joanne) Wells and Cheryl (Dana) Chisholm. Don cherished his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don joined the military when he was 17 and proudly served for 30 years with the RCEME Corps. When he retired he attended Queen’s Theological College and became a United Church Minister in 1985. He served in Pastoral Charges in Glengarry and then became a prison Chaplain in Brockville. After retiring for a 2nd time, he settled in Kingston and filled in as Chaplain in various penitentiaries throughout Ontario. RCEME Association, Veteran’s Affairs and Restorative Justice were very important to him and he donated much of his time to these causes.
He was a great advocate for Women’s Rights and participated in many walks and December 6th memorial services. He and Helen spent time donating to Kingston Interval House and various charities.
Don was a motorcycle enthusiast that had been riding for over 70 years and still enjoyed the freedom of the bike.
Don will be missed by many communities he touched. Because of his generous personality and giving nature, he touched the lives of so many.
The family will be accepting visitors to the James Reid Funeral Home on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. There will be a Funeral Service at Glenburnie United Church, 1028 Unity Road, on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm. If you would like to attend by livestream, please click HERE.
