It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the loss of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Raymond “Ray” Tobin, of Point La Haye, St. Mary’s Bay who passed peacefully on December 29, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, at the age of 75 years.
Pre-deceased by his parents Edward & Mary Tobin; brothers: Frank (Bridget), Cyril (Loretta), Kevin (Dorothy) and Don, sisters Catherine Ryan (Raymond) and Ida Willis (Willie), parents-in-law James & Christina Tobin and brothers-in-law: Dan Daley, Don Fleming and Moses Tobin.
Leaving to mourn with loving memories, his wife of 55 years, Madonna (nee Tobin); children: Diane (Dean), Raymond (Denise), Darren (Leona) and Lisa (Ron); grandchildren: Courtney, Emily, Dion, Makayla, Noah, Emma and Riley, great-grandchildren Kendalyn and Nova Lee; brothers Ed Tobin (Nicole d.) and Les Tobin; sisters: Mildred Hawkins, Sheila Daley, Anne Fleming (Johnny) and Yvonne Fontaine (Jerome); brother-in-law James Tobin; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Bishop (Phonse), Mary Squires (John), Mary Tobin and Madonna Tobin and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, especially his lifetime friends: Ronnie Dillion, Eric White and Calvin Kielly – also his fur baby, Hank!
A special thank you is extended to Nurse Practitioner Rosanne Hickey for the care and support shown to Ray during the past year – your kindness was greatly appreciated; to the doctors, nurses and staff of 5th Floor – St. Clare’s, for your care during Ray’s final hours; to Todd and staff of St. Mary’s Pharmacy and to Gibbons’ Ambulance Service.
A friend to all, Ray was a quiet and humble man who loved life’s simple pleasures. He was a great carpenter who worked on many homes in and around St. Mary’s Bay. His work and work ethic was second to none as was evident by the demand for his skill over his lifetime.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 11am – 4pm and 6 – 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 3, at 11am, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s. Burial to follow.
