Raymond (Ray) Nagy
May 2, 1935– July 25, 2023
Loving father, devoted grandfather, dedicated teacher and compassionate individual, died peacefully at Hospice Niagara on Tuesday July 25, 2023, joining his high school sweetheart, Margaret Nagy (nee Robertson d.2016). Loving and committed father of Sandra Vant (Bruce White), Douglas Nagy (Susan Nagy), and Carol Nagy. Devoted Grandfather of Chantal Vant (Justin Joschko), Colin Vant (Amy Webb), Jason and Karen Nagy, Koral and Denon Wysocki. Fun-loving GGPA to Lavender, Hannie, and Leo Joschko-Vant. Survived by many special in-laws, nieces and nephews. Ray was a dedicated teacher and principal with the Niagara Catholic District School Board. He loved all aspects of nature, and spent much of his leisure time bird watching, skiing, hiking, camping and sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with his own children and students. After retiring he put his talents into woodworking, making toys and puppets which he and Margaret used to entertain their grandchildren and primary school children with old fashioned puppet plays. He later dedicated his time in memory of Margaret by painting pictures and cards of flowers, birdhouses and scenery. In 2020 he received the Meridian Community Spirit Award for sending hundreds of his hand-painted cards to care providers and teachers, thanking them and giving encouragement during the pandemic. He also provided his hand painted cards to Hospice Niagara for sharing with their clients who experience grief and loss. He and Marg were also regular volunteers at Project Share. Ray especially loved spending time with his family, and friends. His daily conversations with his telephone buddies meant so much to him. Ray was a man with an amazing ability to remain upbeat no matter what challenges he faced. His sense of humour was second to none. Sharing his daily “groaners” with everyone made his day. He was very thankful so many friends took time to stop in and share some time with him. Ray was able to enjoy staying in his own home for as long as possible thanks to the wonderful care he received from Kathrine Walker-Smith, PSW (Brass Ring Dimensions of Care), March of Dimes, and longstanding PSW, Laticia (Paramed) and many others. The family very much appreciate the support and compassion shown to Ray and the family by Hospice Niagara staff and Dr. Kerley.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the MORSE & SON EVENT CENTRE, 5929 Main Street, on Sunday August 6th, from 1-4 pm, with a sharing of memories and tributes at 3 o’clock. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date. In appreciation for the care and compassion provided to Ray and his family, donations may be made to Hospice Niagara in Ray’s memory (hospiceniagara.ca) Condolences, memories and photos may be shared at www.morseandson.com
