It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond Hunt, 77, of Rose Bay announce his passing on Monday, June 3, 2024 at the Halifax Infirmary.
Born in New Jersey Harbour, NL to Edgar and Pearl Hunt, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Raymond started working at the young age of 15 at Elliot’s Store in Harbour Breton, but caught the fishing bug and began fishing in 1966 as a deck hand. Not long after he became the Engineer and continued with that until the age of 57. He retired due to health reasons. Raymond was a hard worker and his co-workers would agree. He was a kind soul and always had a good word for everyone. He moved his family to Rose Bay in 1974 and remained there until his passing. Raymond always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart.
After his retirement Raymond kept busy with other loves, his Word Finds, fishing at his cabin, ducks, his boys Stewie, Simon and Beau, driving Essie crazy, singing like no one was watching, visits and chats from friends near and far. But his true loves were his wife, Esther, sons, daughters, granddaughters and great grandchildren. His family was his life.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Esther (Osborne) Hunt; sons, Rocky (Tish) Hunt, Tony (Shelly) Hunt; granddaughters, Angel (Ericka) Tufts, Brooke (Caleb) Levy; great grandchildren, Finley Levy, Ray Eisner, Ozzie Eisner, Nora McMullin; sisters-in-law, Amy (Ben) Bandfield, Sadie Hunt, Madeline Hunt, Christine Hunt, Anne Feener, Glenda (Dave) Williams, Geraldine Osborne; brothers-in-law, William (Cathy) Osborne, John (Shelly) Osborne, Aubrey (Marie) Osborne, Charles (Debbie) Osborne and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Raymond was predeceased by an infant son, Archie Hunt; brothers, Wallie, Edgar, Winston, Roger; sisters-in-law, Ellen Hunt, Una Skinner, Pearl Osborne, Lizzie Yarn, Joan Poole, Ethel Tibbo; brothers-in-law, Tom Osborne, Arch Osborne, Walt Osborne and Gordon Tibbo.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a time of fellowship will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Steve Hiltz officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.
