With great sadness, we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Mr. Raymond Albert Lavoie, age 86 years, peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospice on Friday, January 20, 2023 with his family by his side.
Ray was born in Port Arthur on April 1, 1936. He worked hard all of his life and retired as a Supervisor from Abitibi Thunder Bay in 1991. He met Joyce LeRossignal and they were married on November 29, 1958. Together they started their family and shared many happy memories. Ray was a sportsman and greatly enjoyed all sports, especially hockey, soccer, fastball, broom ball and curling. He was a family man and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray had a heart of gold and will be truly missed by all of those who knew him.
Ray is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce (LeRossignal); daughter Christine (Jamie) Raynard; granddaughters Jessica, Amanda, Kristie and Holly (Travis); great-grandchildren Lexi and Kai; son-in-law, Warren Johnson; three brothers, Robert (Verna), Artie (Judy) and Gordon (Marilyn) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his son, Raymond Jr. and daughters, Denise Johnson and Cheryl Lavoie; parents, Louis and Margaret Lavoie and his in-laws Armand and Ruby LeRossignal.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice for all of their care and the compassion shown to Ray and our entire family.
Funeral services for the late Mr. Raymond Lavoie will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 2:00pm in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Interment will take place at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
If friends so desire, donations made in Ray’s memory to the Northern Cancer Fund (payable to TBRHSF) or St. Joseph’s Care Group would be greatly appreciated.
