Obituary of Randy James McCormick
It is with sadness we share that Randy James McCormick passed away March 16, 2024. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Trish, daughter Rachel (Brent), granddaughters Charlotte and Quinten, mom Sarah, brother Bill, sister Carole, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his father Glen.
Randy was born to Glen and Sarah McCormick on September 18, 1955 in Swift Current, where he enjoyed a carefree childhood filled with bike rides, baseball, and a spirit of exploration and adventure. In 1974, he and Trish began their nearly fifty-year journey together based in Saskatoon. Their life was filled with a deep love, kindness, laughter, and mutual support. They enjoyed simple moments, good jokes, and the beauty of nature, especially the prairies.
For Randy, there wasn’t much better than a long drive under wide open skies with his best friend Trish; even better if they were listening to blues guitar. They enjoyed projects and working in the backyard, travelled across North America, and took every opportunity to visit “the kids”. He was witty, and a lifelong learner, interested in science, and was a trove of facts. In recent years, with physical limitations, they enjoyed the freedom that e-bikes provided to ride along the Saskatchewan River and stop to enjoy beautiful views.
He was an amazing dad, always supporting and encouraging Rachel, instilling from the beginning a belief she could do anything, always giving her space to make her own choices and build her own ideas. He inspired her love of science with backyard experiments, and her interest in protecting the environment. Whether it was volleyball practice, dance competitions, or moving across the country, he was there for her. He thrived in his role as Backum, and adored his granddaughters, who brought joy and a smile to his face with the smallest action. He in turn made them laugh and filled their hearts with many memories.
Randy graduated with a commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and spent his career working for the Government of Saskatchewan, largely in health and social services.
We would like to thank the medical teams at Royal University Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital, as well as his family doctor Dr. Myles Deutscher, for the compassionate care he and his family received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meewasin Valley Authority or Royal University Hospital Foundation.
