Ralph Paul Ash
It is with great sadness that the Ash family announces that our father and papa, Ralph, died peacefully among close family on June 18, 2024. Ralph was born on January 23, 1931, in Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan. He spent his younger years in this area with his parents John and Mary Ash, along with his 10 siblings.
Ralph lived a full life over his 93 years. His values of family, integrity, humor and honesty will be carried on through his family, which started with Eileen and their 7 children. The family has now expanded with many grandchildren, great-children, and extended family, including the Duckworth family after Ralph spent many years with his partner Lil.
In the 60s, Ralph purchased his first property at Lipps Beach and later, the lake front property that is still in the family today. With his loved ones, Ralph built a cabin that would be enjoyed for many generations to come. It became a hub for social gatherings and would foster life-long friendships and relationships for his loved ones. To this day, you can find his grandchildren and great-grandchildren getting the pits ready for a friendly game of horseshoes or in the garage visiting or enjoying a game of crib.
Ralph worked in the construction industry for much of his working career. In 1976, Ralph became a partner in a successful concrete business, CalAsh Concrete. Over the years, many family members and friends worked alongside Ralph. In 1995, Ralph “retired” due to health issues, but continued as a “consultant” and was still known to swing the sledgehammer and was finishing jobs at 80 years of age.
Sports were a major part of Ralph’s life. In his early years, ball and hockey were his sports of choice and you could often find him and his brothers at the rink or on the field. Later in life, he coached and followed his children and grandchildren through their adventures in sport and was always willing to provide support and advice. If you were at Ralph’s house to visit, you could almost guarantee that there would be some sort of sporting event on the tv whether it be curling, hockey, football or baseball. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jay and Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and rarely missed a televised game.
Ralph worked hard and played hard. Through that, he made many life-long friendships and connections. He always made time for those that were important to him, and his kitchen table was a gathering place for anyone who wanted a drink and a good visit. Ralph was one-of-a-kind; humble, funny, hardworking, honest, and reliable. He will be missed by all who loved him.
At Ralph’s request, there will be no funeral service.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kothare and the Regina Home Care staff for the great care provided to Ralph.
