Obituary of R. Garry Boyce
Reginald Garry Sumner Boyce
April 5, 1944 – July 26, 2023
If you are reading this, I have left this world after a long and happy life. I was born in England during WW2. My parents, Walter and Ada (Sumner) met at a social event for British and Canadian Forces. Once the war ended, my British war bride mother and I sailed to Canada aboard the Queen Elizabeth Ocean Liner to be reunited with my Canadian soldier father. Mum, Dad and I settled in the family hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
My school days were spent in Norwood, a Winnipeg suburb. There I met my wife, Donna (Johnston). We married in 1968. After the birth of our two incredible children, Heather and Scott (Leanne Peppler), we moved to Swan River, Manitoba. We spent ten happy active years in that community. Once Mum retired, she joined us. From Swan River, we ventured on to Thompson, Manitoba. When it came time for our children to attend university, we moved to Saskatoon.
It is with much sadness that I say fare well to Donna, Heather, Scott, Leanne and our grandson Tiernan. They are my heart, soul and pride. I thank them for all their love and encouragement. I hope they will think of me not with sadness and loss, but with smiles for the many happy memories we shared. We always believed that no problem was bigger than our dining room table. Nothing gave me more pleasure than sitting around that table caring and sharing.
Over the years, I was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and Khartoum Shrine Temple. I served as President for the Swan River and Thompson Shrine Clubs. Volunteering always played an important part in our lives. Donna and I served as active volunteers for the HOPE Cancer Hope Centre, Camp Circle O’ Friends, Canadian Cancer Society and the Shrine Circus Management Committee.
We may have met during my years spent as a car salesman or restaurant manager. If our paths have crossed, I bid you a fond “adieu”. To all who are reading this, I take my leave by saying, “May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more. May nothing but happiness pass through your door.”
