In loving memory of Phyllis Mae Alexander (nee Munroe), in her 94th year, passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario. Phyllis was born and raised on Sober Island, Nova Scotia, until moving to Ontario with her husband to raise her family. Despite remaining in Ontario, Sober Island and Nova Scotia always held a special place in her heart, and she had returned for a visit when she could. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Mary & Charles Munroe, and predeceased by her siblings Lilian, Mildred, Charles Freeman, Morris, Dora, Lila, and two of her four children, Elver and Eleanor. Phyllis leaves behind her loving family; children Janet (Eric) and Donald, her grandchildren Jennifer (Ken), Jason, Patricia (Herb) and Barry (Lisa), her great-grandchildren Zachary, Noah, and Olivia. Phyllis was a kind soul, with a quick wit, who loved puzzles, reading, knitting, and was great with numbers. Her ability to make delicious meals (tomato rice, stuffed pork chops and homemade cookies, to name a few) with the simplest ingredients, still make her family’s mouth water. Phyllis had a great sense of humour, which she never lost, despite life’s hardships. Her hearty laugh will be forever remembered by those blessed to have heard it. We extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the dedicated nurses, personal support workers, and staff at Fountain View Care Community. A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be planned for later this year.
