Obituary
It is with deeply saddened hearts that we share the sudden passing of our beloved mom, Philomena D’Souza (nee Pinto), age 87, on March 10, 2024 at Sunnybrook Hospital. She is now reunited with her late husband of 53 years, Vincent, who adored and loved her beyond measure, and basking in the glory of eternal peace.
The ache of missing her will always be felt so strongly by her daughter Venetia and son Adrian (Francesca) to whom she was a beacon of light, faith, selflessness, courage and love. She was raised in a family with one of the strongest of family bonds which she carried through to how she raised her own family.
She will be dearly missed by her sisters Rita (late Michael), Theresa (late Nelson), Esther (Tony), her brother Anthony (Julie) and, will reunite in heaven with her sister Clare, brother George (Doreen) and parents Angela and Benedict.
Her sweet and gentle soul was loved by her extended family of brother & sister in laws, cousins, nieces & nephews and their families, caregivers who became family and many friends she made along the way.
Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Philomena (Phil) enjoyed the simple pleasures of this life. She often spoke of the good old days surrounded by lots of people, loved to read, play games like scrabble and go to the casino. She was a teacher at St. Patrick’s, an all-boys school and was adored by her graduates who years later would express their thanks to her.
After a little bit of ‘running after her,’ she said yes and married her forever love Vincy. Soon after they had Adrian & Venetia, she had the courage to encourage him to venture to Canada alone. Joining him over a year later with two small kids, they built a beautiful life in Canada. She would start a new career at an Insurance company for many years and was still doing work right into her 70s.
Her love of children was evident, they lit her up. Her love for her baby doll Hope was enduring and demonstrated the pure childlike beauty in all of us.
In recent years, she battled a few really tough illnesses but you would never know it as she did it with such grace and always a sense of humour. She did it by holding onto what was most important to her, her Faith. Knowing with all certainty that in trusting in God, all would be okay. Faith was her guide and she would want having Faith to be her legacy. With it there is always Hope.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Society of Saint Vincent De Paul and to the Hospital for Sick Children.
Please feel free to leave an online message of condolence to the family. Thank you.

Our heartfelt condolences to Venetia and Adrian and families to Theresa, Victor and family and extended families. I have fond memories of Phil as she participated in many church and school, and then I met her a number of times as parishioners of St. Thomas, the Apostle Parish in Markham.
We now pray for the eternal repose of her soul. May she enjoy the happiness of heaven, once again united with Vincent.
