Passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Iona (nee Lundy) for over 63 years. Loving father of Paul (Abby) and Wendy (Mary). Proud Grandpa of Danielle (Juan) and Sara. Son of the late Luella and Cleason Brubaker. Dear brother of Bruce (predeceased). Survived by sister-in-law Judy and dear brother David (late Dorothy).
Peter was born on a beautiful spring day on March 2, 1940 to Luella and Cleason Brubaker of St. Jacobs Ontario. Peter had a lifelong love of motorcycles. The first one that he ever rode was a 125cc two-stroke James. Throughout his lifetime he owned many motorcycles but his favourite was a 250cc AJS. Peter was also an avid fly fisherman who taught himself how to tie his own flies.
In March 1957 Peter joined the Royal Canadian Navy and did his 20 weeks of training in Nova Scotia. He served as a cook and a deep sea diver on the HMCS Bonaventure – an aircraft carrier and the largest ship in the Navy.
On June 3, 1961 Peter married his high school sweetheart Iona Lundy, the prettiest girl he’d ever seen. For him it was love at first sight. He always felt so lucky that she picked him.
For a long time Peter and Iona ran a very successful business at the St. Jacob’s Farmer’s Market called Brubaker’s Waterloo County Meat and Cheese. There was always a long lineup for sausages on a bun at one end, and meat and cheese at the other.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home in Kitchener. A private family gathering to celebrate Pete’s life will be held at a later date.
