It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Ternowsky announces his passing on November 26, 2024, at the age of 89.
Peter will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his beloved wife, Helen, and their children, Cynthia Hebert (James Schneider) and Dean (Yvette) Ternowsky. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Raymond (Dakota) Hebert, Megan Scott, Brenden Hebert, and Maddison Ternowsky, as well as his great-grandchildren, Brysen Brown, Hayden Klein, and Bowie Hebert.
Peter is survived by his sisters, Rose (Al) Strohan and Pat (Buddy) Wasylyshn; brother-in-law Joe (Benita) Karwacki; sisters-in-law Alice (Eugene) Zaleschuk and Susan (Peter) Karwacki. He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Mary Ternowsky, and his brothers-in-law Al Strohan, Peter Karwacki, and Eugene Zaleschuk.
Born on July 22, 1935, Peter spent his early years working on the family farm in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, until he married Helen in 1963. The couple welcomed their daughter, Cynthia Irene, followed by their son, Dean Curtis, five years later.
A true «jack of all trades,» Peter worked in a variety of fields throughout his life, from farming and driving a taxi to serving at the Bessborough Hotel and welding. However, his greatest passion was trucking. For over 50 years, Peter traveled across Canada, his work as a long-haul trucker providing for his family until his retirement in 2014.
Peter had a deep love for his family, his little dog Ginger, and the many friends he made throughout his life. He was always up for a game of cards—whether it was cribbage, kaiser, canasta, or money rummy—and found joy in the small pleasures, such as scratching lottery tickets (often with good fortune), finding a great deal while shopping, camping, sitting by the fire, fishing, and playing bean bag toss or horseshoes.
We will forever cherish the memories of the laughter, love, and good times we shared with Peter—devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, loyal friend, and beloved uncle. His warmth, generosity, and kindness have left an indelible mark that will forever remain in our hearts.
Our deepest gratitude goes to the doctors and nurses at the Fort Saskatchewan Hospital for their exceptional care and unwavering support during this time.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
