October 20, 1963 – September 11, 2024
It is with profound sadness and heartache that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter after a brief but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 60 years.
Peter was born in Winnipeg and lived his whole life in the Garden City area.
Growing up, Peter enjoyed playing hockey. He referred to himself as the “target” aka the goalie. Peter also enjoyed many other sports including skiing, biking, running and weightlifting.
Upon graduation from high school, Peter decided to join the carnival and spent several years on the road traveling throughout Canada and the US. With his best friend Rich, they would hit the road every spring and embark on a wild and wonderful adventure any young man would love. Oh, the stories they told! He still got “itchy feet” every spring.
After leaving the carnival, Peter worked in the automotive industry and a driver/shipper/receiver starting at Parkside Ford, then moving to Beaver Truck Centre, EKS Courier and finally Bulldog Trucks.
He made many good friends over the years. Please know that he cherished each and every one of you. He enjoyed being on the road, golfing, wing nights, the many BBQ’s and get-togethers, conversations, sharing his jokes and his thoughts on life and the world. He had a few!
Peter had many battles with alcohol in his life, but he won the war. He got sober in 1997 and bought himself his red Ford Escort ZX2 as a reward. He loved that car and all that it represented.
Peter met his one true love and soulmate, Cheryl, and they started dating in 1999. They married in 2003 and were each others ride or die until his passing. They were married for 21 years minus 2 days.
Peter became the “dad he didn’t have to be” to Allan and was so proud to call him son. Together they enjoyed sharing jokes, fishing, camping, gaming and going to concerts.
Peter had many things he loved in life. He had a passion for world history, music, rollercoasters, gaming and sports of any kind. Peter was a Die Hard Kansas City Chiefs fan since the 80’s. He visited Arrowhead stadium several times over the years. He even met Clark Hunt! He suffered through “the lean years” as he called it, but was ecstatic to watch them win 3 Superbowl championships in 5 years; and was hoping for the “ThreePete”. GO CHIEFS!
Peter leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife Cheryl, son Allan, brother Bill, sisters Zena (Bert), Barbara (Rick), sister-in-law Nancy, “Mama”-in-law Carol, sisters-in-law Heather (Blair), Charlene (Ward), Tammy (Chris), Laureen, his best friend Rich (Brenda), nieces Hannah, Dayna, Rianne and Chantel, Nephews Kaleb, Derek, Jason, Joey and John, many more friends and family, and his best buddy Mr. Boots.
Peter was predeceased by his father Bazyl, mother Pelagia, father-in-law Allan, brother Tony, nephews Billy and Christopher and godfather Mike.
Peter has requested cremation with no funeral. However; there will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, October 20th, 2024. Details to follow through social media.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. VanDyk, Dr. Wilson, Dr. Dalling, and the Urgent Care /5U1-3 staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, especially Dave L., Abby, Lana, Donna L., Andrew, Jaymee, Jessieca, Leanne, Gemma, Ademar, Ryan and Rene. We could not have asked for better care for Peter.
In lieu flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Siloam Mission, the SOGH foundation, or any other charity of your choosing.
