Peter P. Wiens Obituary
On the afternoon of Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the age of 87, Peter P. Wiens, of Steinbach, MB., went to be home with his Heavenly Father. At the time of his passing at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, he was surrounded by his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Anne and by his stepchildren of 40 years Connie and Kelvin (Kim), and his grandchildren Madison and Malachi and many other relatives and friends.
Pete was predeceased by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
Pete was born on March 6th, 1937, at his family home in De Salaberry. After working construction, including helping build the Red River Floodway, he ultimately settled on a career in long-distance trucking. For more than 30 years, beginning in 1967 he was employed by Penner International (Transfer) and during that time won awards for his safe and professional driving. During his life, Pete had many interests, including fishing, golf and being a part-time beekeeper on land he owned in Pansy. He was also a proud member of The Workshop Boys band where his talents as a banjo and bass-guitar player were on display.
In 1984 he married Anne. That union came along with two teenage children and the long-time bachelor became a husband and stepfather all in one day. As a new family they travelled to Disney World and Vancouver, and over four decades shared in life’s highs and lows. Pete and Anne especially made many memories and had many adventures. Together they travelled North America with their fifth-wheel trailer, often escaping the Manitoba winter to Arizona or Texas. They also spent many summers camping at Falcon Lake and travelled to Mexico and the Caribbean.
More than anything, Pete was a loving grandfather to Madison and Malachi. He spent countless hours with each of them doing the things they most enjoyed. While Pete often expressed his love more with actions than words, the grandchildren received both devoted attention and verbal expressions of love. This was true to the very end of his illness where even in his last days a visit from Madison or Malachi would cause his spirits to lift and ended with a hearty “love you”. He will always be their treasured Papa.
While the past several months were challenging, they were made easier by the many prayers that were offered. The family especially wishes to thank Susie Harder for her support along with Bethesda Spiritual Caregiver Provider Gary Dyck.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
