Peter Leslie Spalding
March 30, 1939 – November 10, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter L. Spalding, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Peter Spalding is survived by his wife, Alex, his daughters, Cheryl Spalding (Greg Knight) and Kim Allaer (Peter). Papa to Lyndsay Vink (Ryan), Alisha Allaer-Perkin (Mark), Lucas Allaer (Sylvie), Victoria Brand (Jordan Chenier), and Amelia Brand. He was Papa the Great to Jaxon, Allie, Nathan, Kay, and Betsy.
He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Kathleen and Leslie Spalding and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan until high school. Peter then moved to Toronto, Ontario where he met the love of his life, Alex Saywell. They were high school sweethearts at Etobicoke Collegiate. Peter pursued his higher education at the University of Toronto, specializing in Pharmacy where he was the president of the graduating class.
Upon earning his degree, Peter and Alex ventured to Perth, Ontario, where Peter found work in research at Wampole. They eventually moved to Wallaceburg, Ontario where Peter acquired Brander Pharmacy, later rebranding it as Spalding Pharmacy.
Throughout his life, Peter found great joy in his numerous hobbies, including hunting, fishing, cycling, kayaking, and gardening. He loved listening to jazz music and attending sporting events. Peter and Alex enjoyed their travels throughout North America and Europe. He was a lifelong learner, always eager to expand his knowledge. His wide circle of friends shared his passion for card games and outdoor activities, and he had a unique ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life.
As a proud alumni of the University of Toronto, Peter remained dedicated to the pharmacy program, generously contributing pharmaceutical artifacts to support the institution. Peter’s journey continues as the family has donated his body to the University of Toronto for anatomical studies and medical research.
Peter touched the lives of many. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, investing personal time with every family member to discover their unique interests. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the wonderful life he led and the positive impact he made on all of us.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 15 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Glasstown Brewing Company. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the St. Clair River Trail in his honour.
“Sacred gifts: wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, truth.”
