After a lengthy and courageous battle, Peter entered into eternal rest on June 19, 2024 at the age of 85. Loving husband of over 19 years to Kathleen (neé Martin), devoted father to Michelle (Lucio Bonavita), Christine, Evelyn (Justin Bristowe), and Peter Jr. (Heather Whitten) , step-father to Tara (John Jakic), and Curtis Hamilton (Heather). He was the best Papa to Stephanie, Chloe, Lily, Leah, Devin, Jaidyn, and William. Peter will be dearly missed by his sister Marion Hubert (the late Bert), and is predeceased by his parents Edward and Rose Perrone, and his first wife Diane (neé Campitelli) (1996).
After graduating from St. Michael’s College in Toronto, Peter enjoyed a long and successful career working for several asphalt and oil companies. He worked his way from lab technician, to sales and management, eventually becoming Vice President of Sales. Peter was accomplished in his role serving as President of the Canadian Asphalt Association. However, his professional achievements were only outmatched by his love for his family. He could be found watching Leafs games with his son Peter Jr., forever hopeful they’d win the Stanley Cup. A quintessential host, Peter enjoyed both hosting and cooking for family gatherings-especially if it involved his famous sausage lasagna, or his homemade tomato sauce with spare-ribs and meatballs. Whether he was winning at bid-euchre, owning the dance floor, or involved in various shenanigans with his golf buddies, Peter enjoyed life to the fullest. He gave the best nicknames, always had some money or a handful of goodies for spoiling his grandkids. His legacy lives on through his shining example, and his compassionate, generous spirit.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Tuesday, June 25 from 3-5 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2265 Headon Rd, Burlington on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 11a.m. A Livestream link for the Mass will be provided below. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation or McMaster Children’s Hospital would be sincerely appreciated by the family. www.smithsfh.com
