It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter “Pete” Dueck, age 90, of Oakbank, Manitoba. He died peacefully at Kin Place Personal Care Home on September 18, 2023 with his children by his side.
Pete was predeceased by his parents David and Mary, loving wife Olive Dueck, brothers Jake, David, Abe, and Henry, and sisters Helen, Betty, and Marge.
Pete leaves to mourn a family he was immensely proud of; children Brenda Carter (Patrick), Wanda Gorzen (Gord), Darcy Dueck (Jackie) and Darren Dueck (Kelly). Pete will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Miranda, Matthew (Naomi), Riley, Kelsey (Ryan), Kimberly (Austin), Nicholas (Sophia), Adam (Rachel), and Dylan; and great-granddaughters Sonya, Natalie, Nora, and Lily. Pete is survived by his siblings John (Hilda), Marie, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pete was born in Altona, Manitoba in 1932 to parents David and Mary Dueck and was the seventh of eleven children. He later lived in Winnipeg, and after marrying his wife Olive in 1956, settled in Cooks Creek with his four children. Pete was passionate about farming and gardening, and balanced this with a career at Canada Packers until retiring in 1988.
After retiring Pete continued gardening for another 30 years, sharing his abundant harvests of fresh grown vegetables with family and friends. When Pete wasn’t in the garden, he enjoyed making sausage, fishing, playing crokinole, and spending quality time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
A private service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Oakbank United Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oakbank United Church.
