Peggy Elaine Remillard (Thompson) formerly of La Riviere passed away peacefully with family by her side at Brandon Regional Health Centre on July 2, 2023.
Peggy was born in Bienfait, Saskatchewan on February 10, 1952 to Donald and Beatrice Thompson. Growing up in the shadow of the Pierced Rock at Roche Percee, Peggy along with her siblings Darlene, Wendy, and Dale would spend their early years together in the rural Saskatchewan town. Following her graduation, she would leave the comforts gained at home to take on a new adventure and attend hairdressing school in Brandon. It was during that time that a chance meeting through a mutual friend would cast her future, and point her life’s compass towards La Riviere, MB, accompanied by a carpenter who would become her husband and life partner, Marcel Remillard.
Marcel and Peggy’s adventure together officially began on June 2, 1973, marrying in St. Leon, MB. Not long after their marriage Peggy and Marcel would welcome their first son Geoffery, who passed not long after birth. They would then welcome Mark in 1975, Rick in 1978, Karol in 1980, and James in 1983. Throughout their time together they would build a life in La Riviere. A place that fostered family, friends, and community, and a place where their lives would intersect with so many to build a home for their children.
No matter the challenge, Peggy would approach it with a steely resolve she learned from her parents, and instilled in her children. The values of hard work, kindness, and most importantly a bit of humor. That very same resolve would serve her well in tackling her greatest challenge as she battled her cancer diagnosis. Always a planner, Peggy would make a list of accomplishments she wanted to see before she was ready to move on. A list she completed mere hours before completing her journey.
Peggy was predeceased by her son Geoffery, Grandson Brandon (in infancy), mother and father Donald and Beatrice Thompson, in-laws Joseph and Laureana Remillard, sister Wendy Allen and brother Dale Thompson. Peggy was also predeceased by sister-in-laws Fernand and Lorraine, as well as brother-in-laws Gabe Remillard, Norman Caners, Everett Tessier, and Victor Remillard.
She is survived by her loving husband Marcel, children Mark (Linda), Rick (Laura), Karol (Shaun), and James. As well as grandchildren Hayden, Alysa, Brett, Leah, Amber, Riley, Brooke & Hannah. Her sister Darlene, and so many other family and friends.
A special thank you to Dr. Tegg at Western Medical Clinic, Dr. Anderson and Dr. Sivananthan at CancerCare, the A3 nurses, and anyone else who helped her along the way.
A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held Friday, July 7th at 2 p.m. at the Blair Morrison Hall in La Riviere, MB.
On behalf of the family, thank you to everyone who made Peggy’s life special. We hope that the time she shared with others leaves you all with a lifetime of memories, and a cherished reflection of a life lived without regret.
