Pearl Kathleen Richert
January 5th, 1934 – February 10th, 2024
The family of Pearl Kathleen Richert is very sad to announce her passing at age 90.
Pearl wrote the first part of her own obituary and is as follows.
Pearl Kathleen (Janzen) Richert, was born January 5, 1934 , in Waldheim Sask. on a small family farm. Youngest of a family of 3 she was predeceased by her parents Isaac and Nettie Janzen, brother Homer, and sister Jeanette and many special in laws.
Pearl attended Waldheim Public School taking music lessons in Waldheim and Saskatoon from Lyell Gustin, CMBC in Winnipeg in 1952-1953 and 1954-1955. In later years she attended the University of Lagos in Nigeria 1971-1973 and the University of Regina Fine Arts 1974-1975 .
The only medal she ever received was the Governor Generals Silver Medal in 1955 for piano. She had a passion for music and art, but said that she was jack of all trades yet master of none.
Pearl was blessed to have married the love of her life in 1957, and to have traveled and been by his side for many adventurous years. Sadly George passed away in 2016,
Pearl and George traveled extensively both for work and as volunteers in retirement. They lived in and traveled to countries in Asia such as China , Malaysia , Thailand , countries in Africa such as Nigeria , Kenya , countries in Europe such as England , Norway , Ukraine , and countries in the Middle East under MCC as country reps and as program reviewers such as Jordan , Egypt , Israel , Lebanon . Out of all the places they called home they were in Swift Current the longest.
Mom had many friends in the art and craft world in Regina , Winnipeg , and in Swift Current. She liked to entertain and socialize and made many good friends along the way. She will be missed by those groups and by her friends in the condos.
She loved to play the piano and could play anything by ear, her style was impeccable and she always said that when she couldn’t sleep at night she would play piano.
Pearl leaves behind her beloved sons Colin(JoAnn), Dean(Rhonda, Joseph, and Karl), her precious grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah(Derek), Andrew(Virginia), Joshua(Lana), her very special great grandchildren Lena, Emily, Marta, Maida, Cora and one soon to be born.
Two sisters in law Gredi Janzen, and Roberta Richert, and many cherished nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
“For their hands tell a story and the work of their hands tell a story, each thread connecting us to those that come before us and the story endures and continues”
