Obituary
Crowley (Patriquin), Pearl M. – 96, Greenville Station. It is with deep and immense sadness that the family of Pearl Marie Crowley announces the passing of our much loved and beautiful mother and grandmother. She passed away in the embrace of her daughters at Cedarstone Enhanced Care in Truro on Saturday, April 29. The daughter of the late Ellsworth (Elzie) and Edith Patriquin, Pearl was born in Greenville Station where she grew up with 11 brothers and sisters. She felt very blessed to be part of such an incredibly loving family and instilled this passion in her own children. In 1947, she married Laurie Crowley of Streets Ridge, where they lived and raised their family. Over the course of her life, she wore several hats, first and foremost, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She supported her husband in his lumber business and in his job as a forest ranger. She also raised race horses with him. In addition, she was a hairdresser, a cook, and a successful business owner. Never one to shy away from a challenge, in 1963 she opened the P & K Diner, which was later sold to Irving Oil and evolved into the Lady Wentworth restaurant, but her greatest love and achievement was her family, whom she adored with all her heart. A truly giving and compassionate lady, she cared for, first her father, then her mother until their passing, all the while continuing to be an integral presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a talented, generous, and selfless individual, who was an inspiration to many. She was there with a hug for everyone and showered them with love, kindness, and encouragement. She had the ability to make everyone feel very special. She gave so much of herself to her family and community, she was the epitome of charity and grace. She was a long-time volunteer of the Wentworth Recreation Centre and a member of the Wentworth Pioneers Club. In 1982, she founded the Cumberland Singers, with the help of her sister, Jean, to purchase a piano for the new recreation center in Wentworth. Although, this was to be a one-time event, the Cumberland Singers continued to stage concerts under her direction for 10 years, with 100% of all proceeds going to charities, including All Saints Hospital, North Cumberland Hospital, Lillian Fraser Hospital, World Vision, Red Cross, and many local churches, schools, and non-profit organizations. Pearl loved music, playing cards, cooking and having dinner and house parties with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Judylee (Rick) Clarke; Jocelyn (Roy) Morris; grandsons, Nick (Sarah) Morris; Jason Thompson; Jeremy (Shawna) Crowley; granddaughters, Nicole (Jamie) McKim, Amy Morris; great-grandchildren, Luke and Ben Morris; Seamus and Whitney McKim; Kaden Crowley; daughter-in-law, Jackie Crowley; brothers, Charles (Beverly) Patriquin; Glen (Hazel) Patriquin; Wesley (Cindy Perrin) Patriquin; Lyall (Cheryl) Patriquin; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Georgie Patriquin, brother-in-law, Bill Baker, numerous and much loved, Patriquin and Crowley; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Pearl was predeceased by her sons, Michael «Mike» and Mark; four infants; grandson, Chris Clarke and infant granddaughters, Dawn Marie and Cynthia Lynn Clarke; daughter-in-law, Debbie Crowley; brothers, Loran; Austin; Gerald; Hilton; Joey; sisters, Sally Coulter and Jean Mooring. Visitation will take place at MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (902-447-2930) on Friday, May 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. A private funeral Mass and burial will be held at Saint Cornelius Catholic Church Saturday morning. A time to celebrate Pearl’s life, through music and shared memories, will take place at the Wentworth Recreation Centre on Saturday, May 6 from 2 to 5 p.m. All of Pearl’s family and friends are invited to pay tribute to this lovely lady. Donations may be made to SADS Canada, the SPCA NS or a charity of choice. Private condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mmcfunerals.com
