Obituary of Paula McCooeye
Pauline “Paula” Rose McCooeye
(nee Casperd)
November 24, 1929 – October 10, 2024
With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of our beautiful mom, nanny and G.G., peacefully on the morning of Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Hospice Renfrew, following a struggle with cancer and heart failure.
She was 94.
Born in Vancouver, B.C., the only child of the late Mary Jane and Frederick Casperd. Predeceased by her husband Gerald McCooeye and her son Charlie (Kathe).
Cherished mother of Joanne, Lorraine (Terry), and Katie (Bill).
Treasured Nanny of Tabitha, Christopher (Lesley), Leanne (Nick), Heather (Michael), Erin (Jay), Lindsay, Kristin (Devon), Stephanie (Kyle), Zachary (Natanya),
Brittany (Jeremy) and James.
Special G.G. of 21 great-grandchildren.
Raised in Cardinal, Ontario, Paula spent many years in the United States where she had all of her children and then returned to Canada in 1973, to spend the rest of her life in the Ottawa Valley.
Her last two years were spent in White Lake with Katie and Bill, where she made new friends and enjoyed all her doggie visits.
Her passing is a great loss for our family, for her friends, her doctors, and her many nurses, who will remember her fondly for her feisty personality, integrity, perfectionism, sharp mind, generosity and sincerity.
Family was the focus of her life.
After that, her greatest passion was travelling.
She went to Africa, Australia, Bali, England, and Malaysia.
She and Gerry also enjoyed many years of camping across Canada and in parts of the United States, and in their retirement years owned a cottage at Lake Clear.
She was gifted at toll painting, decorating, knitting, sewing, cooking and baking.
She remembered birthdays and anniversaries and looked forward to all the holidays to spend time with family and friends.
She was caring and loyal to all who knew her. She loved to talk about her travels, history and politics. She was a wealth of knowledge.
Mom’s life was best characterized by love and devotion to her family, which just prior to her passing she reminded all of us that her family was everything to her.
She was generous to us all and always loved giving us what she called “walking around” money.
If you tried to say no, she would get upset and say it was all she could do and that we had to let her do it “or else”.
Mom had a variety of jobs over her years.
She was a medical nurse’s aid, receptionist for optometrist, newspaper column writer, teacher’s centre administrator, as well as a local volunteer.
She lived by sincerely held godly convictions to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
A rare gem who will be greatly missed by us all.
Many thanks to her doctors, the wonderful home care nursing team, as well as the caring staff at Hospice Renfrew who gave her a beautiful and comfortable homelike environment from which to pass.
Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the
Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior
where visitation will be held on Saturday morning, October 19th from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and where a funeral service will take place in the Pilon Family Chapel at 11 o’clock.
A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Renfrew would be much appreciated.
