Paul predeceased by his parents,, Helen Muriel Roberts (nee Aldridge) and George Edward Roberts, and his sister, Joanne Dorothy Beresford, and survived by his wife, Penelope (Penny) May Roberts (nee Lee), his daughter, Olivia Anne Maghroum, and son-in-law Zied Maghroum, his grandsons, Jordan O. Abbe, Leo O. Abbe, Adam Zied Maghroum, and Amir Paul Maghroum, his brothers-in-law Geoffrey Robert Lee and Ronald Beresford and his nephews Craig Beresford and Keith Beresford and his family. He was close to all his cousins. HIs late sister (d.o.d. Mar. 29, 2023) and brother-in-law, Ron, were great support from his diagnosis and Ron continues his support.
Paul was born in The Borough of East York, and lived at Kingston Rd and Bingham, Scarborough, and Richmond Hill. He attended and graduated proudly from Danforth Technical High School and Ryerson University (Metallurgy).
Paul worked for T. Eaton Company for 34 years as a Laboratory Mechanical Technician in the Research Bureau. He represented Eatons on The Canadian Furniture Standards Board and The Canadian Paint Standards Board. He was also the «Pin-Up Employee» for the Research Bureau and appeared in the Eaton’s Catalogue for many years. He also worked for Intertec as a Mechanical Laboratory Technician for 14 years. He loved to curl at Leaside Curling Club and the Richmond Hill Curling Club. He enjoyed camping and canoeing and travelled through Canada, USA. Tunisia, England, Ireland and Caribbean. He relaxed at our trailer park for 12 years and made many friends there.
He was a great Dad who attended all the milestones in Olivia’s life and Papa to four wonderful boys and attended the milestones, births, bikes, driving Jordan and Leo to camps, games, recitals, graduation, and virtual graduation, buying donuts, and attending all birthdays. He was a loving and loyal husband and great nurse to Penny when needed.
His main love in life was music. In his retirement his got to play his trombone with the Merry Melody Makers, New Horizon Band, The Brad Force, and a jazz band led by Tim Henry. He met his wife and first dance at Maloney’s was to You Are the Sunshine of my Life and last song he heard when passing. He got to see some great musicians at live performances.
Paul was diagnosed with Colon Cancer a year ago and life was a struggle for the past year. We wish to thank the medical staff of Markham Stouffville Hospital Oncology Dept especially Dr Babak and Emergency Dept, Southlake Hospital Radiation Dept., and Mackenzie Health, Emergency Dept, Medical Ward and the wonderful caring, compassionate staff of the Palliative Care Unit, especially Dr. Berger and the nurses, Miriam, Simmer and Andrew. Also, his family doctor of many years, Dr. Catherine Frances Feuer. York Region has great medical care.
The family will attend a graveside service for Paul at Aurora Cemetery, on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, at 1:00 pm. Toasts to Paul will be in the near future with our groups of friends. Should you wish to honour his life through a donation please do so for your favourite charity, Canadian Cancer Society (nonspecific cancer as all cancers need to be treated equally), or the Canadian Diabetic Association (for which a family member has this disease).
