The family is sad to announce the passing of our Hughie after a challenging year ,on Sunday the 17th of November. He waged a courageous fight against cancer and all the complications that come with it, with tenacity and courage as long as humanly possible.
Hughie was born in North Bay, second son of Bridget and Dennis Cosgrove. He was predeceased by brothers Garney and Brian, and his sister-in-law Evelyn. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine (Arbour), his beloved Goddaughter Allison Loureiro (John), his brother and sister-in law John and Estelle Arbour, his sister Margaret Perrault and brother-lin-law Bert, former sister-in-law Marilyn Duffy (Jim), nephews and nieces Dave Perrault (Ann) Darcy Perrault (Natasha) Todd Cosgrove, ( predeceased Carol), Russ Gibson, Kerri-Lee Downey , Lesley Johnson, and many cousins who were very dear to his heart. He was employed at Ontario Northland Railway for 35 years, and enjoyed life as a retiree since 2004.
Hughie enjoyed his time as a catcher for many years of slow pitch and fastball. He was a skilled bowler himself before moving on to spend 20 years worth of consecutive
Saturday mornings as a Coach of the Youth Bowlers. He recently received an award from the Northern Ontario Bowling Association for his volunteer work coaching Adult Bowlers.
Hughie and Lorraine’s home always welcomed all their friends and family to come ahead in, sit down for a chat, a beer, a coffee, one of Lorraine’s delicious meals or a bed to rest yourself.
We will miss his generous, kind, fun loving spirit until we meet again, and are comforted by the welcome we know he received in God’s embrace, and from all the gang who went ahead. God speed dear Hughie.
The family will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Friday November 22, 2024, between the hours of 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. A memorial mass will be celebrated at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption (North Bay) on Saturday November 23, 2024, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
