Obituary of Patricia Anne Sullivan
Patricia «Patsy» Anne Sullivan passed away on Friday Oct 13, 2023 at 1:05 am at the Belleville General Hospital in Ontario. She was born March 17, 1940 in Minto New Brunswick, to Robert Henry Sullivan and Edna Louise (Milbury) Sullivan.
She is survived by her brothers, Gerald «Jerry» Robert Sullivan, Benedict «Ben» James Sullivan (Linda), Ronald «Ron» Michael Sullivan (Brenda), Daniel «Danny» Patrick Sullivan, and Barry Kevin Sullivan (Trudy), and many nieces and nephews who all loved her very much.
Pat was predeceased not only by her parents but her brothers Terence «Terry» Milbury Sullivan(Carol), Harold «Wayne» Sullivan(Jeanette), Donald J. Sullivan, Leonard «Lenny» Arthur Sullivan and her sister Margaret «Peggy» Louise Kenmey. Pat was the third oldest of eleven children.
Patricia moved to Athens Ontario more than 60 yeas ago for a longtime teaching job at Athens District High School (ADHS). She taught for 60+years and retired from ADHS leaving a lasting impact on the school. She taught Geography, History and Economics among other courses, though her true love was Geography evidenced by her passion to take her students beyond the textbook and classroom. Through Pat, many of her students experienced her love of the Maritimes. She helped interested travellers fundraise during the winter months before trekking across NB, PEI, NS in the spring. She taught the students to set up army tents, build and cook over campfires and shared her love of the outdoors.
Pat also had a tremendous impact on the Athens community. She and a group of volunteers launched the Joshua Bates Performing Arts Theatre as a result of her love of the arts. Many community members remain engaged as members of the organizing committee, or by attending performances.
Pat became family to many Athens residents, in particular the John Conley family; known as Aunt Pat to the Conley children, grandchildren, and other neigbourhood (Mainse) children. Pat spent many family holidays and summers with the Conley clan. She enjoyed camping at Little Lake Papineau, hours fishing, telling stories around the campfire, sharing her expansive trivia knowledge and playing card games such as 45s or cribbage.
She was loved and respected by her closest friends and the community where she spent all her adult life.
Pat was full of wanderlust and truly loved to travel and had travelled all over the world but kept returning to the Rocky Mountains, her favourite destination of them all.
