Patricia Peacock-Evans
Patsy Peacock-Evans died on January 2 after lung cancer overpowered her wondrous spirit and strength.
Born in 1945 and raised in Cincinnati by Esther and Lawson Woodward. Mid-sister to Sandra and Shawn. A long decade in jeans on the Leucadia California coast where she mothered Avia and Zeke in 1975.
Patsy gave her heart to John Evans and landed in Hamilton on January 1, 1980, with her two children where she and John built a home life for Michael, Tony and Rosalind and Avia and Zeke.
Patsy’s capacity for a creative life was boundless. Honoured as a teenager at her high school for her fine sewing she built a wardrobe and even created wedding gowns of infinite complexity for daughters. For 35 years, in water colour painting, in pen and ink and graphite, Patsy has dedicated herself to generating magnificent works. Family and friends, especially her grandchildren, demand one of ‘Patsy’s Pies’ at special dinners.
Patsy’s devotion to her children was deep and rich. Although once the wicked stepmother to John’s teenagers, their mutual love and trust has become entirely unqualified.
As cancer wielded its sword, her friends, the Carnegie Gallery artists, John’s old collage pals, those wondrous half dozen women scattered over the USA, her book club chums, her neighbours, her list of folks invited to salons in her home to share brilliant musicians, and more and more who came to know her, have written of Patsy’s impact on a full spectrum of their lives.
Patsy leaves a bereave family. Avia and David and their Hugo, Zeph, Honor and Anouk; Zeke and Erika and their Cypress and Helix; Rosalind and Andy and their Molly and Theodore; Tony and Lisa and their Giulian and Sebastian; Mike and Susan and their Willa, Finn and Angus; together with her two sisters and their families. John has lost he beloved.
Christ’s Church Cathedral Monday January 9, 2023.
Reception to follow.
Memorial donations to the Carnegie Gallery, Dundas, would be appreciated.
