Patricia Marek Obituary
Patricia Lee (née Hager) Marek passed away on June 23, 2024, at the age of 78 after a long struggle with cancer. She was predeceased by her mother, Leonora (née Johnson) and father, Carl Hager and sister, Carolyn Brown. She is survived by her husband Karel and two sons, Shaun Paul Marek (Pleasantville, Nova Scotia); Craig Lewis Marek and wife, JoAnn (Kenora, Ontario): grandchildren Brock (Nichole); Dane (Hyacinth), (children Frances, Franco, Caleb); Callie (Kyle) Derouard and great-grandchildren Paisley Grace and Trey Jaxon Derouard. Her late sister Carolyn (Dwight) Brown has three children: Erynn (Joe) Carmichael, Greg Brown, and Vaughn (Lisa) Brown (Cassidy, Jonah).
Her late parents-in-law were Dr. Karel and Herma Marek from Saskatoon.
Also, she is predeceased by her sister-in-law, Janette (LeRoy) Olson. Her children are Krista Olson and Keir (Tasha) Olson (daughter Amaiya). She is survived by her brother-in-law, Dan (Sharon) Marek and 3 children: Kevin Marek (children Tyson, Travis, Ryan, Evan, Shelby, Melyssa (Irvin) Bircham (Nathan, Carson Jacob, Jameson); Michelle (Arnold) Crawford (children Danielle, Mikaela, Colby, Madison, Cassadie, Dacie, Anika) and (grandchildren Kyra Honig, Jaela Honig, Ameya Marie Taylor, Kazlynn Taylor, Ellawyn Taylor, Orianna Crawford); Cherie (Phil) Dittberner, (children Freyja, Peytra, Portia); Sister-in-law, Cathy (Darwyn) MacKenzie and daughter Sarah-Ashley (David) Ortiz (children DJ, Aniline, Stephanie, MacKenzie).
Pat was a nurse serving for over 40 years in hospitals in Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan – she retired in 2010 from Galloway Health Centre in Oxbow, SK (1978-2010). She was very much loved by her coworkers and patients.
Pat loved nature. She showed exceptional skills in beautiful floral arrangement and landscaping. She shared her skill with others for celebratory events and home decoration.
Pat loved all animals. At her beloved family homestead in Laclu, ON, she spent hours feeding wildlife, such as foxes, racoons and birds, by hand. She was especially fond of cats and dogs and treated them all with love and compassion. Also, Pat adored the variety of local birds and fed them faithfully.
Among her favorite sports were hockey, curling, and football and minor league Gamechanger baseball games through the media, especially those of her friends like the Spencer boys and the McNeil daughters.
Above all, Pat was a helper and listener. She was always available to others to help, to listen and to offer simple wisdom to those who needed it. This was her way of living out the Love of the Christ who was central to her life.
Pat loved helping with Christian church community and continued to send tithe, and potluck items even when she was no longer able to attend Church.
She will be dearly missed by family and friends. She’s absent from the body, but present with the Lord of her salvation, awaiting the Rapture of the saints!
