WIth great sadness, we announce the passing of Patricia Dawn Smyth of Kitchener on October 3, 2024, after a protracted battle with Alzheimers. Dear mother to Sarah Smyth of Toronto and Chris Smyth (Carolyn) of Waterloo. Loving grandmother to Jennifer Smyth (Patrick Quinlan) and Melanie Smyth (Brayden Siersma). Great-grandmother to Nora and Cole Quinlan. Pat was predeceased by her former husband Hugh Smyth (d. 2000).
Pat was born in Toronto on May 15,1932 to Desmond & Minerva Corcoran. She grew up in Toronto and attended University College at the University of Toronto graduating with a degree in Arts & Archeology in 1955. Pat was a gifted artist and shared her talents working for the Stratford Festival in costume and set design as well as with family and friends through gifts of beautiful sketches and paintings. Pat was also an ardent lover of classical music enjoying regular trips to the Toronto Symphony and supporting the KW Symphony Orchestra and KW Chamber Music Society.
Pat was a life-long learner and was passionate about theatre and travel to explore other cultures, history and architecture. Family was everything to Pat and she loved to host family get togethers. She also thoroughly enjoyed a good game of bridge with her pals, collecting sea-glass on the beach at Southampton, the most challenging of puzzles as well as gardening and meeting neighbours around her beloved home on Simeon Street. She remained active and connected in her later years distributing posters to promote local arts and
culture events.
Pat will be sadly missed by her family who would like to express gratitude to the staff at Age Care West Williams for her care over the last two years. At her request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Patricia will be laid to rest alongside her parents at St. John’s Norway Cemetery in Toronto with a private interment ceremony.
Donations to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra would be a fitting tribute to honour her memory and can be arranged through the funeral home at www.henrywalser.com or 519-749-8467.
