It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Patricia Horvatis (nee O’Keefe) on November 21 st , 2024. Mom was born on October 30, 1932, in the northern town of Kirkland Lake and spent her formative years in Welland, Ontario. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family and for the selflessness and practicality with which she approached her life. She instilled the belief you can be anything you set your mind to. Mom is predeceased by her husband, Dan and her siblings Frances, Kathleen, Terry and Henry. She will be greatly missed by her children Paul (Marilyn), Peter (Joanne), Mary (Dwayne) and Pam (Peter) and by her grandchildren Chris (Stephanie), Alicia (Richard), Josh (Kirsty), Jamie (Mitchell), Emma (Eric), Will (Chelsea), Graydon and Hannah. May she be fondly remembered by her great grandchildren Noah, Luke, Xaviera, Azzurra, Brooks, Ezra, Kenzie and Micah. Mom graduated from the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1955 and shared many fond memories of her friends, colleagues and of the Sisters of St. Joseph who taught young women with strength and compassion. Mom served the community of Cayuga through her involvement in the Cayuga Figure Skating Club, the St. Stephen’s Catholic Women’s League and through her nursing duties working for Dr. Marshall and Dr. Bulger for many years. In the end, Mom was a compliant patient, understanding the perspective of those caring for her as she had, for many years, been on the other side of the hospital bed. Our family extends our sincerest gratitude to the staff from RVilla in Caledonia who demonstrated deep care for her well-being over the past 5 years. We always knew Mom was well taken care of as she often said how happy she was living within the RVilla community. Special thanks to Lori who was unwavering in her support and care for mom. We also want to thank the staff at West Haldimand General Hospital who supported Mom and the family in her final days. Mass will take place on December 19, 2024, at 10:30am at St. Stephen’s Church, 15 Ottawa Street South, Cayuga, Ontario. A light lunch will be served at St. Stephen’s Parish Hall, 25 Ottawa Street South following mass. Interment will take place at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, 1378 Sandusk Road, Jarvis following the luncheon.
