Sandra Manning (Ryan) passed away comfortably and peacefully Friday Morning, March 31st, 2023. Survived by her loving and devoted husband Douglas Manning of 58 years; loving children David (Ann-Marie), Douglas (Lynette), and Heather O’Keefe (Steve); Her beloved seven grandchildren Stephen (Mandy), Kelsey (Dwane), Ryan, Sarah (Kris), Liam, Nicolas, and Alexandra; her precious Great Granddaughter Liv; her sister Lesley Hickey (Larry-predeceased), brother Jim Ryan (Helen), and many nieces and nephews.
Born on March 9th, 1940, in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador, to William and Jean Ryan. In her life Sandra attended St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital where she studied to become a Nurse. Working in the operating room, Sandra was a hero, helping to save countless lives throughout her career. She would go on to marry Douglas Manning, starting their family together and settling in Placentia for 33 years.
Living a fruitful and exciting life, she worked and taught as a nurse, traveled the world, and participated in any community she touched. Sandra’s kindness had no bounds, willing to lend a hand or home to anyone who was in need. In 2002, herself and her husband moved back to St. John’s, where she lived out her days filled with family, friends, and a passion for curling and bridge.
There was nothing she loved more than her family. Sandra gave life to the loving memory of her own parents, grandparents, and more, through the stories and memories she shared with a nostalgic smile and animated voice. She found joy in being surrounded by family: watching her children and grandchildren spend time together, until her final moments. No matter the distance, they were brought together through food, tradition, and love.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Caul Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road on Monday, April 3,2023 from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place from The Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Tuesday, April 4th at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow at the columbarium at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Flowers graciously accepted or donations in Sandra’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
