After a 12 year battle with lung cancer Pathaka passed away peacefully on 8th December 2024 surrounded by her siblings and nieces & nephews.
After high school, she completed a diploma in accounting at the Colombo technical college. Then she worked for Hayles corporation until she moved to USA in Summer 2000 to complete
Associate Degree in Accounting at the Lake County community college in Illinois.
After completing her degree she Immigrated to Canada.
She worked for a financial services company in Edmonton, Alberta and lived an independent life.
She was Diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015 and received treatments. In 2018 when the cancer returned, she retired from her work and moved to Windsor, ON to be with her sister.
A devoted Buddhist, She wanted to keep the battles very private and sought the teachings of Buddha and meditation to find strength and meaning.
She is survived by her five siblings, their spouses and eleven nieces and nephews.
She was Good aunt for 11 nieces and nephews, a reliable member for the extended family and friends and a devoted member of the Windsor and Edmonton Buddhist temples.
She Enjoyed traveling. She made two pilgrimages to Bodigaya (Dambhadiva), Italy, UK and many times to Sri Lanka.
She found time to attend the important events of her nieces and nephews and family members and found ways to help friends and relatives.
Sometime in 2025, we plan to offer an alms-giving to pass merits to her and a gathering to celebrate her life. Respecting Pathaka’s wishes the cremation was done immediately after the Buddhist Ceremony at Windsor Buddhist Vihara on 8th December 2024.
In memory of her, a donation may be made to Windsor Buddhist Vihara and Meditation Center (windsorbuddhistvihara.org) 691 Campbell Ave, Windsor ON N9B 2H6, Canada.
