Orville (Orv) Harold Page
May 4, 1936 – June 8, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Orville (Orv) Harold Page, of Sechelt, B.C., who slipped away at age 87 following a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born on a farm in rural Oakville, MB, Orv was the eldest of three children born to Harold and Edith Page. His long career in the baking industry began in Lethbridge, AB, where he met and married his wife, Elizabeth Adams, a nurse.
Orv managed industrial bakeries selling bread and buns, donuts and other baked goods across the Prairies, moving to Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Calgary and Coquitlam. At the end of his working life, he fulfilled a life-long dream and became a small business owner.
Orv and Liz had two children, Shelley and Glenn. In addition to being a big supporter of their sporting endeavours, he was a passionate curler. Since he was a teenager, he skipped in bonspiels across Western Canada. He also served as the President of the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster, where he was honoured with a life-time membership.
Orv was fair, kind, generous and gregarious. He was also a keen money manager and investor, nicknamed ‘old ledger lines’ by his family for documenting each penny spent. A diehard Canucks fan, he enjoyed season tickets with Liz for many years. In retirement, Orv and Liz moved to B.C.’s beautiful Sunshine Coast, where they bought a small boat and took up prawning.
Orv is survived by his wife of 62 years, Liz; their two children, Shelley Page (Glen McGregor) of Ottawa, and Glenn Page of Gibsons, B.C; and two beloved granddaughters, Cleo and Scarlet Page.
Orv is also survived by his brother C. Jerry Page (Norry) and his sister, Cecilia Fjeldsted, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Edith; his parents-in-law, James and Lottie Adams; and brothers-in-law, Mervyn Adams and Fred Fjeldsted.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Sechelt Hospital for the care Orv received during the past six months of his life. If desired, donations can be made to Parkinson Canada.
