It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Onslow Hillier of Grand Bank announces his passing. Onslow passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank on Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at the age of 83.
Onslow was born on Brunette Island in 1939, he was very proud to be born there and told everyone. He moved to Fortune at the age of 9 years, where he lived until he married Shirley and moved to Grand Bank. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and a very proud member of the Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for a couple of years. He moved to Marystown in 1976 and became involved in the Lions Club and the Fire Department there. He moved back to Grand Bank (Lance au Loup) in 2001 where they stayed until 2019 when they moved back to the seniors cottages in Marystown. Onslow spent most of his life as a car salesman. He was very much a family man and loved spending time with his children, grand children and great grandchildren. He loved music, especially playing his accordian. He loved to dance and would have a waltz anytime, anywhere. He had lots of lifelong friends who they loved spending time with.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife Shirley of 63 years; daughters, Brenda Keeping (Charles) of Fortune, Wendy Hillier of Marystown, Shelly Hillier of Marystown; sister, Marlene Power (Pat) of Grande Prairie; brothers, Roy Hillier (Lorraine), Ben Hillier (Paula), Carl Hillier (Stella); sister in-law, Elmira Prior of Grand Bank; 8 grandchildren, Vanessa (Robert), Charla, Andrew (Haley),Garlanda (Randy), Holly (Jamie), Blake (Jamie), Chelsea (Nick), Gavin; 6 great grandchildren, CJ, Brookelyn, Hudson, Brielle, Sophie, Madelyn,; special nephew, Keith Prior (Margaret); plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Onslow was predeceased by parents, Charles and Gladys Hillier; brother, Chesley Hillier; sisters, Shirlee Hillier; infant sister, Phyllis Diane Hillier; son in-law, Bernard Farrell; parents in-law, Wm. and Annie Fizzard; brothers in-law, Eli Fizzard, Owen Prior; sister in-law, Rosa Hillier.

Wiseman’s Funeral Home – Marystown, NL on Thursday, February 9th, 2023
from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Wiseman’s Funeral Home – Fortune, NL on Friday, February 10th, 2023
from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Funeral service will take place at Grand Bank Salvation Army on Saturday, February 11th, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
Inurnment to follow at Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank, NL.
In Onslow’s memory donations may be made to Cuddle Bed project for Blue Crest Home or flowers gratefully accepted.
We would like to thank the staff of Blue Crest Nursing Home for their wonderful care of Dad over the last 10 months. You went above and beyond. We would also like to thank Major Arley Masters for being there for us during our difficult time.
