It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Olive Katie Modersohn on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the age of 85 years.
Olive loved beading, picking blueberries, dancing, playing blackjack, and spending time with family and friends. She also loved cheering for her favourite team, the Edmonton Oilers.
Olive was known as someone who never complained, would go above and beyond for her family and friends, and was sure to never turn down a good time. She was incredibly patient, full of grace, and very proud of her children and grandchildren. Olive was a survivor of residential schools and in spite of that she was a fluent Cree speaker. She was proud to be a Cree woman and demonstrated this by all the beautiful handicrafts she created.
Olive is survived by her loving husband, Chris Modersohn; children, Randy (Charlene) Modersohn, Whitney (Sandy) Modersohn, Debbie (Derek) and Michael; grandchildren, Dustin, Sheldon, Colby, Danielle and Tonya; great- grandchildren, Gabriel, Cailey and Layne; soul sister, Jeannette Michael Nikwemeh; her namesake, Katie Olive Burns; sister-in-law, Nellie Head; numerous nieces and nephews who she loved like her own; extended relatives and her many wonderful friends.
Olive is now reunited with her parents, Roderick and Betsy Head; siblings, Maria Whitehead, Mariam Burns, Hazel Harkness, Irene Cowley, Jimmy Head, Paul Head, Alivin Head and Elmer Head; her best friend, Emily Travers; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Oh, what a reunion that will be!
The Modersohn family would like to thank the staff and medical team at Hardisty Senior Center and the University of Alberta for their kind and compassionate care. Additionally, they wish to extend their gratitude to everyone who has shown their support and love shown during this difficult time.
