Lydia Louise O’Donnell
April 13th, 1935 – Sept 2nd, 2023.
Recently passed surrounded by family At the Hastings Manor in Belleville, Ontario.
She will be sorely missed by her husband, John;
her beloved children Karen, Kevin, Kerry (and husband Warren), Gord (and wife Anne), Lenny (and wife Cathy):
stepson David (and wife Genevieve). Also mourned by her grandchildren Jessie, Kail, Cory (and partner Mitch), Cody (and wife Tristen), Jake (and partner Taylor), Ava and Dash. And then there are her great grandchildren Bobby and Scarlett.
From humble beginnings in the not-so-trendy Yorkville, and impeded by a truncated education,
Louise spent the next 27 years with Gord Sr, a man of incredible integrity, energy and commitment, with whom they had five children.
She then found her way into the profession as a School Secretary, where she began what was to become an
Honours B.A. in creative writing. She also met the next great love of her life in John Burns.
They spent the next 46 years together. She assumed the role of mentor to David (John’s son),
and was instrumental in his growth and upbringing as well.
She thoroughly enjoyed years in Australia and China (where she taught English
and Family Studies to native Chinese students), with John.
Creatively, her towering achievement was her Poetry. She was a Prize Winning poet,
recognized by many in the County as the “Poet Laureate” of Prince Edward County. She is published in Anthologies across Canada,
the U.S. Australia and China. She has 13 “Chap” books and two full books under her own name.
Great gratitude is extended to the Administration & Staff at Hastings Manor for the exemplary care received over recent years.
And we cannot overlook the Alzheimer’s Society that unfailingly guided us through this labyrinth.
