May 27, 1933 –
May 19, 2024
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Nunzio Leone on Sunday May 19th, 2024 at the age of 90. Peacefully surrounded by his family at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice, Nunzio left us to meet his Maker. He is the beloved husband of Giuseppina Leone (nee Amatangelo) of 67 glorious years. The loving papa of Edmondo Leone (late Sandra) and Anna Boyle. The cherished nonno of Athena Wells (Scott), Eddie Leone (Mafalda), Madison and Michael Boyle. A dear brother of Giuseppina Ciotti (late Gaudenzio) and the late Mario Leone (Anna) and a great brother-in-law to Frank Amatangelo (Maria). Nunzio will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada, USA and Italy.
As a young man, Nunzio immigrated to Canada from the mountain village of Rocca Pia, L’Aquila, Italy leaving behind family to start a new life with a new wife, new opportunities, and renewed hope. He had an incredible work ethic that paved the way for him to provide a prosperous life for his growing family. Nunzio worked at Allan Candy for 40 years as a supervisor. He was respected, admired, and loved by all who work alongside him. He was a kind, compassionate and empathetic leader to all. He valued hard-work and was disciplined to always complete a task with pride and sweat. Nunzio was a man of integrity. Be it in the role of husband, father and nonno he lived life to honour family and build a home of God. He was a man of Faith and lived life according to Gospel Values that speak to the dignity of every human-being. He loved freely and deeply and encouraged all with whom he connected to love one another. He held high expectations of himself and others so that they could live their potential. He led by example. He was the best friend to his wife and was forever grateful to her for the care she provided him during his almost 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the greatest father who lived to serve his children and the PERFECT nonno to his grandkids. He loved and treated everyone he met with kindness and compassion. He was a role-model for all those who knew him. He was a pillar of strength as he demonstrated this throughout his pain and suffering with his illness and a source of love. He will be missed so profoundly by many.
Nunzio was a talented gardener and skilled cook. He loved living his traditional Italian culture and heritage. He absolutely loved watching many sports and Wheel of Fortune. He was a loyal and proud AC Milan fan and a proud Hamilton Tiger Cats fan. He loved bocce and playing cards. He loved wine, food and music. He was devout to la Madonna della Libera and held her prayers and songs closely within his heart until his final days. He loved his family and friends so that friends became family and family became friends! He cherished laughter and joy. Nunzio loved life.
The Leone family would like to thank Dr. Shaw at the Juravinski Cancer Centre for her compassion, kindness and care throughout his journey. A special thank you to his nurse Katarina and his numerous PSWs. A heartfelt thank you to the beautiful staff at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for providing an environment that gave Nunzio dignity in dying. A special thank you to family and friends who visited and provided Nunzio with much love and kindness during his illness. Nunzio was surrounded by all the love and compassion he gave to others. Rest in Peace dear husband, father and nonno Nunzio Leone.
