Norman McAllister Obituary
MCALLISTER, Norman John
Norman John McAllister passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024 surrounded by the love of his family in Calgary, AB. Norman will be lovingly remembered by his children Twyla (Kirk), Todd (Pam), Debbie (Brant), Dean (Elisabeth), grandchildren Kyle, Tye (Claire), Breanne (Nick), Chase, Ryan, Tegan, Lachlan, Matteus, Sebastian, great grandchildren Jessa, Kenna and Jack, siblings Arlene, Marilyn, Ruth (Bill), Stuart, Bev (Kim), Dan (Susan) and nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and extended family members. Norman was predeceased by his infant brother Gordon, his father John McAllister, his beloved mother Emma, his beloved sisters Laura and Margaret, and many dear friends.
Born August 10, 1935 at Fisher Home, AB adjacent to, and baptised in, Pigeon Lake. Norman grew up on the
family farm and carried his love of family, horses and farming throughout his life. Norman left his family farm to the call of Alberta’s oil fields where he worked his way up from rig hand to visionary innovator, forming
McAllister Petroleum Services Ltd in 1980. Norman’s company developed, manufactured and provided leading edge drill stem testing tools, electronic temperature/pressure recorders and inflatable packer products, pioneering many revolutionary processes for the oil industry worldwide. He truly appreciated his team of dedicated, innovative people. Norman especially enjoyed the adventure and challenge of business dealings internationally. He always returned with many great tales of his travels and when possible, he shared his
journeys with family members.
Norman’s life was enriched by his family, extended family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His generosity, sense of adventure, and joy of life will be deeply missed. One of his life-long passions was his love
of horses. He enjoyed many successes over the years in his business of breeding and racing thoroughbreds. Norman was the ultimate optimist and his daily enthusiasm was palpable. He brought good energy, hope and inspiration to all that loved him. Norman was a charismatic and engaging leader. He was always looking for the next idea, the next deal and the next collaboration. He was a great friend and advocate and an
extraordinarily kind and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and son. Norman truly embraced life to the fullest and thrived on his relationships with family, friends, horses and his dog Spoon.
For the past two years, we have all held Dad close as he experienced a number of health challenges. Above all, Dad enjoyed and appreciated his family during this time and demonstrated incredible resilience, determination and grace throughout the many changes.
Our entire family is grateful to the remarkable health care team that supported Dad with skill and kindness over the past year. We send special thanks to Dr. Norman Yee for his support of our Dad over the years and in more recent times, to Drs. Praveen and Martin, and all the nursing and support staff at Brentwood Intercare. Your skill and compassion are commendable and appreciated. Dad loved life and he fiercely loved every one of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
We will always love and treasure you Dad.
