After a rich life of 87 years, Norman Leslie Beer was peacefully ushered into Glory on Feb 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Norm was born to Alfred and Florence Beer in their home on the family farm in Rosedale B.C., the fifth of 6 children.
In September of 1957, Norm married the love of his life, Norma Mary Northgraves. Together they built their home and family adding 4 children to their brood, Neil, Bruce, Nancy and Peggy.
Norm loved the grocery business and put his hands to work with food in a variety of ways throughout his career, working for Safeway before venturing out in a partnership with his brother-in-law, and move to Savona B.C. to purchase the only General Store in that tiny little town.
In 1968, the beer family returned to Chilliwack where Norm accepted a managerial position with IGA grocery stores before putting his entrepreneurial skills to work once again. He eventually purchased a refrigerated truck and began his own distributorship servicing convenience stores up and down Fraser Valley with excellence!
One final career change saw him sell his distributorship and join forces with Norma as her company, Norma’s Bakery, had taken off in the mid-80s. The family business continues to operate under the ownership of their son Bruce and wife, Brigitta.
Norman defined his character within his family and community by being faithful, consistent, jolly, honest, faith-filled, hard-working, relational, a loyal friend …… He deeply loved others and was deeply loved!
He was most proud of his family and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma, son Bruce (Brigitta) Beer, daughter Nancy (Randy) Dearborn, daughter Peggy (Pat) Wiens, along with 14 BELOVED grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Norm is pre-deceased by his eldest son Neil, his parents and all his siblings, except his younger sister, Joan Welch.
Norman’s impact as the patriarch in his family, marked by belonging and love, will be forever remembered and deeply missed.
Family and friends will celebrate his life at a service held on March 4th, 2023, in Chilliwack, B.C.
