With sadness, but grateful for a full life, we announce the death of Norma (Inez) Kelly, 90 years old at Royal Oak Age care in Kingsville. Norma was born August 31st 1934 in Montreal but lived during her early life and career in Toronto. Norma also lived in Bracebridge (Wood Lake), Kingston and Wolfe Island.
Norma (Nony) is survived by her long-time friend and spouse Donna Ivey, brother Irwin Kelly, nephew Stuart Sparks (Nina), nieces Susan Cholvat (Tim), Brenda Mennie (Jamie), Cheryl Townsend, and Pamela Thomas (David), as well as six great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Samuel Kelly and Maude (nee Clarke) and sister Olivia Sparks (Bruce).
Norma started her career as a Early Childhood Educator and then as a Child Care Worker and Supervisor trained at Thistletown Regional centre. She continued to advocate for children’s needs and went on to found and be the Executive Director (1975-1993) of the Ontario Foundation for Visually Impaired Children (OFVIC) at the High Park Forest school. She garnered the Civic award 1988 in Toronto for her endeavors and the respect of many.
Greatly interested in choirs, music and history; one could often find her singing, reading and collecting antiques. She was a member of several church choirs and in her retirement was an active member of the Kingston Historical Society. She was a wonderful partner to Donna as they shared similar passions and Norma supported Donna in her literary endeavours.
Norma was a strong, capable and above all loving woman. She lived her life helping others and always on her own terms. Her memory, example and inspiration will live on.
Cremation will occur. No service at this time. Interment to be held at a later date on Wolfe Island.
