Norma Kathlyn Southward (Malcolmson)
On December 14, 2024, according to God’s plan, mom’s incredible life has come to a peaceful close. The final chapter of mom’s memoirs is now complete. Heaven has surely gained another angel.
Born Norma Kathlyn to John and Irene Malcolmson, Oct 25,1922, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norma Southward at 102 years young. Mom was the heart and soul of our family and will be dearly missed by her children: Lynda Moynagh (Paul), Harry Blunt (Sue), Tom Blunt (Kerry) and Chris Blunt (Linda).
Mom was a caring, thoughtful, generous grandmother to 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
In spite of the many challenges in her life, mom was a strong woman in so many ways. She was truly dedicated to her faith, loved her family beyond words and enjoyed her friendships immensely.
Mom is already dancing in heaven to New York, New York with her sister Jean. Predeceased by her husband George and her younger siblings, Jean Voskamp (Jack), Gerald (Claire), Irene Lang (Paul), Harry (Betty) and her brother-in-law Stan Blunt (June). Survived by her brother Donald.
Mom was a proud member of the CWL for over 50 years and in retirement a tap dancer with the Geritol Follies.
Prior to moving to Burloak LTC in October, 2024, mom lived 9 amazing years at Heritage Place Retirement Home. She once said she thought “these places were where you went to die.” However, thanks to the incredible, caring staff she soon said, “it was a place to live life to the fullest.”
Visitation will be held from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday December 18, 2024 at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home 796 Upper Gage Ave. Hamilton, ON.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday December 19, 2024 at 11am at St. Paul The Apostle Church 2265 Headon Rd., Burlington, ON.
As per mom’s wishes cremation will occur and a private family interment will follow at a later date.
Mom, we’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when, but I know we’ll meet again some sunny day. Composed by Ross Parker and Hughie Charles. Sung by Vera Lynn.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Good Shepherd or (children’s charity) would be appreciated.
