Norma Ione Covlin, nee Bakke, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Nipawin, SK, after years of varied health challenges.
Norma was born to George and Lillian Bakke at Viceroy, SK on August 22, 1940, the only girl of five children, and twin to brother Norman. She went to school at Springmount before going to Assiniboia to finish high school. Norma went into nurses training and worked as a registered nurse off and on for forty years at the Pasqua hospital in Regina.
In 1961, Norma married Nyles Covlin, and they had their first home at 3358 Dawson Cres., just one of the many houses that Nyles built throughout his career in the construction industry. In 1975, Nyles built their family another home, and they moved to the acreage at Balgonie. Norma retired from nursing in 2004 and after Nyles passed away in 2008, Norma remained on the acreage until selling it in 2020, when she relocated to Nipawin.
At a very early age, both Norma and Nyles made their own commitment to serve God and were privileged to have a Sunday morning meeting in their home for nearly fifty years. Throughout their lives they had an open home for many families, friends, and workers. Even after her retirement, Norma continued her love for serving and having company, as well as a great love for photos. She has preserved many memories, both in pictures and family history.
Norma had many health challenges, including a couple of surgeries following cancer diagnoses, and a serious automobile accident in 2015, in which a STARS mission saved her life. These last years found her needing help on a daily basis, but she continued to inspire many with her steady example and beautiful spirit.
Leaving to cherish her memory, are her children; Glenda (Delbert) Allan of Swift Current, SK, Karen Day of Nipawin, SK, Colleen (Lyle) Munro of Nipawin, SK, and Merlin (Joanne) Covlin of Red Deer, AB; her ten grandchildren; Benjamin (Angela) Allan, Jennifer (Sheldon) Harrison, Monty (Keri) Allan, Lisa (Tommy) Olsson, Robb (Cameo) Day, Jesse (Shayann) Day, Colten Covlin (fiancé Amanda), Quenten (Payton) Covlin, Keeler Munro, and Bryton Munro; and eighteen great-grandchildren; Renée, Jed, Haden, Lanni, Piper, Dane, Zara, Chet, Ava, Mia, Milo, Ida, Adelia (and sibling due December 10th), Bentley, Lincoln, Koen, Noella and Angel. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Carol Bakke and Barb Bakke, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, Nyles Covlin, her parents, George and Lillian Bakke, brothers; Norman and Arnold Bakke, half-brothers; Luke (Florence) and Ed (Mary) Kineshanko, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law; Nellie and Fred Covlin.
