It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Noah Kristofer Genner on August 27, 2024. Noah leaves behind his perfect-match, life-partner, love and best friend, Annette Synowiec, and their beloved dogs, Murphy and Malina. A caring and loyal son, brother, uncle, and friend Noah will be deeply missed by his brothers Ari (Rhonda) and Devin (Alyssa), his stepfather Peter (Nancy), his nieces and nephews (Aly, Isaac, Otto and Anna), the Synowiec family (Stan, Elizabeth, Joanna, Michael), and his close-knit circle of friends. Noah is predeceased by his parents Donald Genner (of Wallaceburg) and Connie Genner (of Guelph) whom he loved and cared for very much. His warmth and kindness touched everyone he met and will be forever missed. Noah was an extraordinary person. He quietly but unwaveringly followed his heart and was deeply loyal, and unafraid to take on risks. He bravely lived his life to the fullest regardless of the challenges it brought forward and was determined to never give up. He cherished his time with Annette as they shared together their love of family, friends, the outdoors, travel, great food, biking, books, and movies; as well as encouraging one another to fulfill their life goals, always in full support of one another. Cycling was a major passion for Noah who’s perfect weekend would always include some rides and tinker-time with his bikes.
Noah was a born leader which he demonstrated even in his social life, participating in real-life sports as well as organizing fantasy-sport leagues of all types including a baseball pool of dear friends, founded more than 30 years ago. Noah led his “Arkmen” to victory countless times while avidly following his favourite teams, players, and data. No event was ever safe from Noah’s love of data! Noah taught us that life’s most meaningful moments lay in savouring the simple joys that make up everyday life. He most enjoyed the often lower key and uncelebrated get togethers and events; the small details that rarely get stars drawn around them on the calendar. Fiercely independent and self-assured, Noah’s professional life was uniquely his and hard to compare. From becoming Canada’s youngest licensed projectionist in the cinema to being a part of the development of the supply chain side of Canada’s first online bookstore, bookshelf.ca whatever he wanted to accomplish he did. Noah pursued his studies in geography at the University of Guelph and lent his leadership skills helping to support many aspects of Project Canoe for a summer. Noah’s enduring love of books and technology led him to the publishing industry working at BookNet Canada, where, in less than five years, he became President & CEO. As a leader, Noah was never someone who sought fame or unilateral power, but instead sought to empower others and to be fair. He cared for his friends and colleagues at BookNet like his family. During his twenty-year tenure at BookNet, he guided the company to unprecedented success and international renown, with ripples of impact felt in the Canadian publishing industry and beyond. His relentless dedication, positive attitude, and innovative mind changed the publishing space.
Noah’s wit, judgment-free attitude, and consideration for others are truly irreplaceable but it brings us peace to know that his once-in-a-lifetime energy has left a lasting legacy —he was a timeless classic in his own right. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the University of Guelph Arboretum on October 27, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Toronto Mount Sinai Hospital and/or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
