Nicole Kathryn Docksteader, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on July 10, 2023 in Ottawa, Ontario. Beloved wife of Brad. Loving mother to Dax and Maverick. Cherished Daughter of Carl Bonferraro (late Kathryn). Caring sister of Matthew Bonferraro.
The Story: Born June 15, 1990 in Rochester, NY Nicole was the older of two children. At a young age, Nicole gave her life to Christ. Nicole was engaged in many activities including gymnastics, softball and hockey. After graduating High School, Nicole pursued an education in Criminal Justice at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. It was during her time at Liberty when her mother passed away, challenging her to make her faith her own and place her complete trust in Jesus Christ. In that same year, Nicole met Brad where the two started dating in 2011 and later married in 2013. In 2014, Brad and Nicole moved to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada where Brad started his career and Nicole completed her Masters degree in Professional Counselling.
In 2018, Brad and Nicole were blessed with their first son, Dax Bradley Docksteader. In 2020, the Lord blessed them with their second son, Maverick Carl Docksteader. As an avid believer, Nicole showered her children with love and did everything she could to raise them in the way of the Lord.
In 2021, Nicole was diagnosed with breast cancer followed by treatments and surgery. In 2022, Nicole was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. It was in this moment when Nicole knew that she needed to completely hand over her health to the Lord and put her complete faith in Him. In spring 2023 a trip to Mexico to pursue physical healing turned into a time of spiritual growth. It was in Mexico where Nicole met many other believers in a similar situation to her who prayerfully surrendered their lives to Christ. Nearly a month later, Nicole’s battle with cancer got to its toughest point when she was told it had spread to her liver. It was in the challenging times when you would expect her to turn the other way when Nicole would turn to the Lord in prayer and demonstrate a complete trust in Him.
Nicole fought the good fight, she finished the race and she kept the faith. We have all been challenged by her unwavering faith and commitment to serving her Lord Jesus and know that her story does not end here.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 14 from 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life service to honour and remember Nicole will be held on Saturday July 15 at 11 a.m. Both will be held at The Met, 2176 Prince of Wales Dr.
