With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Nancy, on January 26, 2024 surrounded by the love of her four children and cherished sister. Nancy will be remembered for her radiant smile that brightened every room she entered, her kind and friendly nature and her unwavering courage when facing life’s obstacles. Even at the end, she found a way to smile and laugh. Her story was a testament to strength and abundant gratitude for everything that life has to offer.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children; Lisa (Matthew), Danny, Sara (Joseph), and David. She absolutely adored her eight grandchildren; Charlotte, Annabelle, Kayden, Aydan, Evelyn, Hudson, Ellie, and Rosie bursting with pride and love for each one of them. Predeceased by her beloved parents; Tom and Ethel Sylvester, her infant daughter, Shannon, and niece, Charlene. Survived by her brother David (Leona) and sister Diana Mosco (late James). She will be lovingly remembered by her nephews, Jeffery and Patrick.
Nancy was a busy mom of four who worked hard her entire life. For her first career, she worked as an Executive Secretary at the University of Alberta. She spent many years as a single mother and would work late into the evening and on the weekends at part time jobs in addition to working full time.
She dreamed of being a teacher and realized that dream in her forties. While caring for two teenagers and two toddlers, she went to University and Teachers College. As a kindergarten teacher, she worked at Robert Hopkins, Charles Hulse and Glen Ogilvie. Teaching brought her so much joy. She taught up until the age of sixty seven, touching the lives of over a thousand students and their families.

Nancy loved entertaining family and friends. She was an amazing cook and hostess. Her pumpkin pie was so legendary that it was even served at her daughter, Sara’s, wedding. She always enjoyed chatting with everyone she met and endeared herself to all who crossed her path.
Nancy embodied undeniable courage and unbelievable strength as she battled cancer. Throughout it all, she maintained a positive outlook and was an inspiration to so many.
The family sends deep appreciation to all of the people who have provided us all comfort in Mom’s final days with thoughtful acts of kindness. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Rest peacefully, Mom. You will be dearly missed.
