Obituary for
Nadine Krueger
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nadine Krueger, better known to her family and friends as “Oma”, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the age of 85 years.
Nadine was born on January 15, 1939, in Saporoshje, Ukraine to parents Jakob and Agnes Simonenko (née Zeiser). Nadine immigrated to Canada as a young teen and her family settled in Camrose, Alberta where she met the love of her life, Ernst Krueger. Nadine and Ernst were married in 1956 and enjoyed 66 years of marriage until Ernst’s passing in May 2023.
In the early years of their marriage they moved to Edmonton, Alberta where they put down their roots and had four children: Linda, Monica, Erich (Sue) and Willy (Katrina) and later eight grandchildren: Sarah, Nicholas, Wiliam, Kaitlyn, Ryland, Andrew, Chris and Megan; and six great-grandchildren.
Nadine had a huge love for family and friends. She was the type of person that they could always count on to assist them in any way that she could. When her children were young, she spent her time caring for her family and home. She toiled away tirelessly and took on much of the child rearing and household responsibilities as Ernst often worked long hours or out of town. Once her children grew up and were more independent, she worked some part-time jobs in the service industry, an area that she found very fulfilling. Then, a few years later, Nadine would become an Oma. She treasured being an Oma, a role she cherished dearly and upheld with immense pride. She spent countless hours caring for her beloved grandchildren and embraced the opportunity to assist her children in this way. And every generation of her family often enjoyed her famous pancakes that no one else could make quite the same as her.
Nadine also took great pleasure in volunteering at various places, but her main focus was St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Nadine would provide food, baking and assistance at funerals, make quilts that were donated to the less fortunate and helped out anywhere else that the church had a need.
Nadine had a love for singing and she had an amazingly beautiful singing voice. For many years, she was a member of the choir at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed both the opportunity to sing and the friendships that she made.
Nadine was known and appreciated for her directness and her sense of humour which she maintained right up until her last days. Nadine was so incredibly loved and a real pleasure to be around. She will be greatly missed by so many whose lives she touched and improved either with a helping hand, a piece of sound advice or with a shared laugh.
Unfortunately, Nadine was recently diagnosed with cancer and although she remained optimistic and valiantly fought against it, she eventually succumbed to this terrible disease. Her family and friends spent many hours with Nadine in her last days. Despite the dismal reality, everyone who visited her enjoyed music, singing, laughs and quiet tender moments with our beloved mother, grandmother, friend right up until the end. We feel blessed that Nadine passed away peacefully with the morning sun on her face and her granddaughter by her side. Anyone who knew Nadine understands how truly blessed we all are to have been a part of her life. She showered us with unwavering love and will forever remain in our hearts.
Please join us as we honour Nadine Krueger’s life on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10759 – 96 Street, Edmonton, officiated by Pastor Randy Meissner.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choosing. Nadine would be pleased for this last opportunity to help someone out.
Rest in peace, Nadine. You will be tremendously missed… until we meet again.
