SMITH, Myrtle Isabel – In her 102nd year, our Mom, Myrtle Isabel Smith, entered her heavenly home on January 23, 2023. Born on July 6, 1921 to the late Kenneth and Edna (Brannen) Smith of Newellton, she spent most of her life in Clark’s Harbour. For the past 10 years Mom was cared for briefly at Surf Lodge in Lockeport, and then at Bay Side Home in Barrington. From her early teen years, Mom was a conscientious, hard-working live-in housekeeper, in homes from Clark’s Harbour to Newellton, in Lockeport, and in the Annapolis Valley. Faithful to her Lord and Saviour, and among her services to Him, she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. At family gatherings her cloverleaf rolls and special 3-layer cakes were always in demand. To her grandchildren she was affectionately known as ‘Granny Apple’ (from Granny Smith apples). Predeceased by her husband, Arthur Smith; she is survived by her daughter, Marina (Ozzie) Mugford; son Grant Smith; grandchildren Wanda (John) Tedford, Randy (Nathalie) Mugford, Cheyenne Smith, and Shane Smith; 6 great-grandchildren in the Tedford family (Caleb, Rachel, Timothy, Matthew, Sarah, Phoebe); and 2 great-great-grandchildren (Khaleesia and Jack). Mom is also survived by sisters-in-law, Hazel Smith, Olive Smith, Mary Smith, and Patsy Smith. The last surviving member in her family, Mryt was predeceased by brothers, Keith, Frank, Noble, Eldridge, Frederick; sisters Evelyn (Perry), Mildred (Blades), Greta (Stoddart), and Carolyn. She is also predeceased by, and joined in Heaven with, her first great-great-granddaughter Raelyne. At Mom’s request, there will be a Graveside Service, at Evergreen Cemetery, Lr. Clark’s Harbour, on January 27 at 2 pm. There will be a visitation before the service, in the H. M. Huskilon’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, from 12 – 1:30 pm. Donations in memory may be made to Evergreen Cemetery or Bay Side Home in Barrington. We are most grateful to the staff of Surf Lodge and Bay Side Home for Mom’s loving care.
