Obituary of Murray McNaughton
With sadness in our hearts but joy for the time we had with him, the family of Murray McNaughton wish to announce that on Saturday August 3, 2024, after and long and rich life, with family around him, in his 93rd year, Murray went home to be reunited with his heavenly father.
Born on December 4, 1931, in Carleton Place, Ontario, Dad leaves behind his adoring wife of 63 years Barbara (nee Lee), their children Lee (Pauline), Lisa (George Porter), Greg (Tracey) Adrien (pre-deceased) and Shontelle Michaelis (Danny).
Much loved Poppy of Curtis (Danielle Montgomery), Christopher (Amanda Porter), Marrisa Rocco (Tom), Thane (Jessica Spinks) and Mitchell, Brook (Nicole) and Chase (Sarah) McKerracher as well as 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Son of the late Malcolm Lawrence McNaughton and Edna Matilda Farnel. Murray was predeceased by son Adrien Asa McNaughton, his brothers Lloyd and Harold (infant) and his five sisters Edith Jerome, Joyce Tennant (late John, late Bob Haines), Phyllis Donelly (late Lawrence), Geneva Doyle and June McInnis (David).
Over the years Dad worked many jobs, doing everything from being an independent dump truck operator when he met Mom, building amphibious vehicles (Penguins) at the Pengor factory in Carleton Place (even working on the Penguin that was presented to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip during their visit to Ottawa in 1964), he manufactured Pine furniture at a factory in Almonte, and even fixed the Arnprior town clock on more than one occasion (clocks being another of his passions). Dad’s final job saw him building Airplane parts at Boeing Arnprior, where he finished out his working career.
As you can see, Dad was a man of many talents; if it was broken, he could fix it, if it wasn’t, he could make it better. He also didn’t like to let things go to waste, he was remembered as saying “if I don’t have it, I can teach you how to do without it”.
Dad was a husband, a father, a grandfather and father-in-law, a brother, and a son; he fished, played music and hunted, he surprised his family with his ability to draw, he was a strong man, but a quiet one; he helped where he was needed, he was a fixer of all things and he was a man of God.
Murray leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, commitment and a devotion to the many passions he held over the years, the most important one being his family. Murray may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
His care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where visitation will take place on Wednesday morning, August 7th from 9-10:45. A Funeral Service will be held in the Pilon Family Chapel Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment Malloch Road Cemetery, Arnprior. Reception to follow.
The service will be webcast live for those unable to attend.
