Antigonish passed away on May 26, 2023 at St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital, Antigonish.
Born June 7,
(«age is just a number and mine is unlisted» –
Muriel), she was the daughter of the late Fred and Alma (Cousins)
Kennedy.
Muriel was a
kind and generous person, offering love, a friendly smile and
understanding to everyone she met. She was known and loved by all. She
loved all her nieces and nephews and each will tell you they were her
favorite. Music was an enormous part of Muriel’s life and she passed
this love on to anyone who would lend an ear. If there was an open
mic, ceilidh, concert or bluegrass festival chances are Muriel would
have found a way to be there. If you saw a tall slim figure with a
stylish wide-brimmed hat and leather pants drifting through the crowd,
you knew you were at the right venue. Muriel would effortlessly
attract kindred spirits to share each musical experience. She was also
a steadfast champion of environmental causes and an advocate
of social equality. She began her working career with the telephone
company in New Glasgow until they modernized and she then became an
employee of Sears, Antigonish where she worked for many
years.
Muriel is
survived by her sister Jean (Roddie) Chisholm, Antigonish; sister in
law, Hazel Kennedy and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and
nephews who will miss her greatly.
She was
predeceased by brothers:Victor (Shirley); Stan: Charlie (Jean) and
Carl; sister, Jessie «Nellie».
Visitation in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home,135 College Street, Antigonish on Monday from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm
with Reverend Peter Smith presiding. Burial in Sunset Cemetery,
Argyle.
Donations in
memory of Muriel Kennedy may be made to a charity of
choice.
